Read more below about why Dog Grooming Salon à la Lon in Dordrecht is the best choice for your dog.
You will find the grooming salon at Lombardstraat 27 in Dordrecht. You can arrive at the door by car and drop off your dog for grooming. You will be called when your dog is ready to be picked up
Hygiene treatment:
A deep cleansing and moisturizing washing treatment, blowing drying and brushing to make the coat supple, soft and shiny again. The ears are also cleaned and the nails trimmed if necessary. This treatment is also ideal for short-haired dogs that still want to be clean and fresh in the house.
Complete groom and coat care treatment:
The dog receives an intensive hygiene treatment (see above) and the coat is scissored into the desired model. Your dog will leave the house in a completely new “look”.
This treatment is for dogs that require regular trimming, long-haired, semi-long-haired, curly coated, such as Doodle, Bearded Collie, Shi Tsu Boomer, Pomeranian, Havanese, Yorkshire Terrier, West Highland White Terrier, Afghan Hound, Tibetan Terrier and so on.
Powerful coat boost / deshedding treatment:
Dogs with a lot of wool hair (such as a shepherd, chow chow, border collie, spitz) benefit from a timely removal of excess hair to prevent tangles. This saves a lot of hair in the house, especially when the moulting period starts. This treatment consists of the hygiene treatment + an intensive blow-out of excessive hair and brushing care. The contours of the dog are also cut back into shape (legs, flags on the front legs, buttocks, tail, collar, etc.).
Refresh and restyle treatment:
Do you feel like your dog’s hair is growing like crazy? Can he hardly see anything anymore and are the paws very difficult to keep clean? The refresh and restyle / intermediate treatment is especially for regular customers who would like to keep the coat a little longer, but want a clean and fresh dog in between the complete grooming treatments (see above). The service is the same as the Hygiene treatment, supplemented with “restyling” the head, cutting the paws, checking the armpits and groin (since this is where most tangles occur) and the sanitary part. Your dog can look great again for another couple of weeks after a visit to the dog grooming salon.
Pluck or Strip treatment:
Wire-haired dogs are plucked, this keeps the coat in optimal condition and prevents suffocation of the skin. We have the choice of putting on a fully plucked coat or a striped coat. Of course, your dog will enjoy a bath and will be thoroughly dried. The sensitive parts (legs, head, belly) cannot always be plucked, these parts are then cut to shape. The ears are also cleaned and the nails trimmed (if necessary). Do you want to know the difference between plucking and stripping? Then scroll down.
“Learned young, done old” – Puppy getting used to grooming:
It is strongly adviced to start learning coat care at a young age, both at home and in the grooming salon. You and your dog will enjoy it for the rest of their lives! We plan “puppy getting used to grooming”-sessions in the salon especially for this purpose. Your puppy learns what it is like to go to the dog grooming salon. We prefer to start between 12 and 16 weeks of age. Your puppy learns to deal with the environment, all the sounds, actions, touches and of course we keep it fun.
The advice is to schedule a short session every approx. 6 weeks during 6 months so that the experience can be completed up to and including a full treatment. During one of these sessions I also plan time to provide the right coat care and product advice for at home. And after each session you will receive feedback that you can use to train with your puppy at home. Together we can make grooming a great experience!
“Coat care at home, but how?” – A tailor-made lesson in caring for your dog:
You and your dog can come to the salon for demonstration and product advice for the best coat care for your dog. Many people only discover that they do not actually know how to brush when their dog has coat problems. You would rather prevent this, but of course it is never too late to learn. Therefore, learn from the professional how to provide the best care for your dog.
Just nails!
It is possible to come to the grooming salon for just cutting the nails.
That is difficult to say in advance because it depends on many factors. The size and age of the dog, the condition of the coat, how well used the dog is to coat care, what are the wishes for the model, etc. In general: a hygiene treatment takes approximately 1 hour. An intermediate and coat boost service approx. 1.5 hours. A full trim will take approximately 1,5 – 3 hours. Plucking coats are labor intensive and usually last 2 or 3 hours. A puppy familiarization session and coat care lesson approx. 45 minutes. Once you have been to the salon, a better assessment can be made the next time. Mind you, rush and hurry and working with animals are things that don’t go well together, so I always adapt to what is possible.
I basically groom dogs without the owner present. Experience shows that dogs are often more relaxed during a grooming treatment when the owner is not present. However, there are always exceptions to the rule. Where necessary, I may still ask you to stay present and, if necessary, to lend a helping hand.
How nice! Because we don’t know each other yet, I can only give a price indication of the treatment in advance. The final costs depend on the behavior of your dog and the condition of the coat. These factors determine how long the treatment lasts. Prior to the first appointment, it is therefore useful to receive a photo of your dog and please complete the intake form. I then try to give the best possible price estimate. Just cutting nails costs € 20,-
When you schedule an appointment, I will send you a payment request for a deposit of EUR 20. I am forced to do this because of the many appointments where people do not cancel or do not cancel on time, causing me to miss out on income. You can cancel free of charge up to 24 hours in advance by telephone or via What’s App (see general terms and conditions). Although this is a small amount, I hope to create more urgency to take care of an agreed appointment. Thanks in advance.
Do you have any questions or would you like to know more? Please feel free to contact, I will be happy to help you.
1. Please make sure your dog is walked.
2. We discuss your wishes (in advance) and I check the coat for feasibility.
3. Don’t delay too much when saying goodbye, your dog is in good hands.
4. Always make sure that you are available by telephone during the dog grooming treatment.
5. Do not plan too many intensive things for your dog before or after the treatments. Your dog may be tired from all the impressions and experiences and needs some rest.
6. Last, but not least: an appointment at the salon is NOT a detangling session. In other words, maintain your dog regularly by brushing (possibly washing and dry blowing). A dog without tangles is much happier, more beautiful and makes the grooming treatment less intensive for the dog and the groomer.*
*Is your dog’s coat heavily matted or in a very poor condition? Please inform me in advance when the coat is in a bad state, extra time is required for this. Also I need to charge an additional fee. This is because it requires extra time and attention to remove the tangles in a gentle and safe way. Materials, such as hair clippers and scissors, also wear out faster due to this type of treatment. A felted coat can also cause itching or irritation, even after the grooming. This is because the skin under the felt has not been able to breathe properly. I work with love to give your dog a healthy and fluffy coat again and to prevent this together in the future! That is why a dog grooming salon à la Lon is a good choice.
Wire-haired dogs such as dachshunds, schnauzers, cocker spaniels, Dutch smous, jack russell, border or cairn teries, etc. have a plucked coat. If it is not maintained regularly, the hairs can remain in the coat and cause tangles and skin problems. By plucking, the coat and skin remains healthy, beautiful in color and retains its weather-resistant properties. With a plucked coat, the loose, “mature” hairs are plucked by hand when they are ready to fall. This prevents a lot of itching and hair in the house. The rough texture of the guard hairs is maintained by regular plucking. If a rough hair is shaved, the coat becomes softer and duller.
There are 2 options: completely pluck or strip the coat:
