Cat-Friendly Working Method

Welcome at Trimsalon à la Lon in Dordrecht

The well-being of your cat is my top priority in my salon. As a professionally certified cat-friendly groomer, I know how to handle:

  • Stress levels can rise quickly, so I take into account a good balance of tension and relaxation.
  • I work as much as possible in a coat-preserving way. A cat’s coat serves important functions, such as protecting the skin (flora), for example, in a fight or when caught on a branch. It provides warmth in winter and coolness in summer. Read here why trimming or shaving the coat is not a solution to shedding or heat.
  • Tangles are mostly removed by untangling or, if possible, combing them out. However, this quickly becomes painful for the cat and is bad for the coat and skin. The most cat- and coat-friendly way to remove tangles and mats is by shaving them off locally. This is quick, painless, and effective.
  • I respect as much as possible the natural growth phases of the coat. For example, I do not remove hair excessively during shedding periods. This can have a counterproductive effect in the long term, potentially even triggering multiple shedding cycles.

  • Coat-saving also means that at the end of the treatment, your cat might have a unique haircut. Only the problem areas are addressed, and mats and tangles are removed locally. This aims to disturb the coat as little as possible and to continue providing maximum protection for the sensitive skin. Such a lion cut will never be done from a cosmetic perspective.
  • Cats do not like water, shampoo scents, or the dryer and the long drying time that follows. There are good alternatives to help a dirty cat in a cat-friendly way without washing.
  • Is the cat really scared or very aggressive? Read here about the options.
  • In an “emergency” situation, I address all issues as quickly as possible. This may mean shaving the coat significantly. Then we look at how to prevent the problems that have arisen. An essential part of the grooming treatment is also advice on what you can do yourself for coat care and what to avoid.
